The University of Caen Normandy has decided to establish a partnership foundation to preserve its heritage and build for the future. Its name: The Fondation 1432 of the University of Caen Normandy.
1432 marks the founding year of the University of Caen. Almost 600 years later, the University of Caen Normandy launched its foundation with the noble aim of implementing major projects and programmes for the institution, the success of its 33,000 students, and the promotion of its heritage and culture.

Building bridges between education, research, and the socio-economic world

The primary ambition of the Fondation 1432 is to implement projects and establish meaningful programmes that align with the values of a sustainable future and social responsibility.
The mobilisation of the University of Caen Normandy’s community of over 100,000 alumni, alongside the dynamic network of its 4,500 partners through the Phénix Club, will enable it to build more bridges between education, research, and the socio-economic world.

The University of Caen was founded when Normandy was under the control of the King of England, making it the third ‘English’ university after the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge. It was also one of the first French universities, established a year after the death of Joan of Arc, when the authority of the King of France over the Duchy of Normandy had not yet been firmly established. It was re-founded by the King of France in 1450. For more details on the history of the university
